Immunofluorescence of NPY in ovaries was performed using 21-day-old rat. a Representative pictures are shown. b, c The signal intensity of NPY in single cells was measured; cumulus cells (cumulus; A, i), antral granulosa cells (antral GC; A, ii), mural granulosa cells (mural GC; A, iii) and theca cells (theca; A, iv) in preantral, early antral and late antral follicles (PA, EA and LAF, respectively). NPY signal intensity in EA was higher than that in PA and LAF b, and that of antral GC was higher than that of cumulus, mural GC and theca c. These results suggest that NPY expression is follicular stage-dependent and antral GC is the main follicular source. Data are representative of the mean ± SEM using six biological replicates and analyzed by one-way ANOVA and Tukey’s multiple comparison. Different letters denote significant differences in Tukey’s multiple comparison (p < 0.05)
