From: Aged mice ovaries harbor stem cells and germ cell nests but fail to form follicles
H&E stained OSE cells smears show the presence of stem cells, germ cell nests (GCN, dark green arrows) and putative unenclosed oocytes (light green arrows). At higher magnification, the cytoplasmic connectivity amongst the cells comprising the putative GCN was clearly visualized. The GCN were of varying sizes and were apparently in different stages of development. The experiment was repeated three times. Scale: 20 µm
